We were approached to explore opportunities for development near the highest peak in Odisha -  Deomali which lies in Koraput Valley of Odisha. The brief was to work with the locals & to work with materials from & around the site.

As we were not familiar to the local context - the first thing that was suggested was a site visit - with an itinerary requesting opportunities to travel, stay in local places & explore surroundings - people, cultures, markets, building styles, houses - in line with the brief.

On return, the team first presented a Design Diagnosis, which addressed the challenges and explored the options available. The first presentation included site & context analysis, material & construction technologies that can be employed in line with the brief and a master concept plan.

What we are building now - was entirely conceptualised with that first visit and further detailed out in time.

The restaurant elevation is desigined as such to attract the passing visitors to the peak. It employs local aesthetics of simplicity and material palette, the saree prints are hung like false ceiling to create a vibrant & colorful atmosphere - welcming tourist & locals alike. Lamps used in the resort are locally made with using the skills of a village at Chilka Lake in Odisha.

Cottages adhere to simple, cozy & minimal principle. Wooden flooring for it's warming touch to the feet, rich clay plaster on the internal walls to the use of a fine mat made of local plants for false ceiling & wood bamboo furniture - the interiors exubert luxury & comfort.
